Monitoring and Tracking Management Initiatives

Taking action...it's what managers do. But sometimes it's hard to determine what effect the actions had or if they had any effect at all.

SPR Center can assist your organization in evaluating the impact of its management initiatives. For example, one of our clients was implementing a performance management plan throughout their organization. At the same time as this plan was rolled out, SPR Center conducted a company-wide employee survey. After survey results were in, SPR Center first categorized employees based on their stage of performance management plan implementation and then, using advanced statistical analyses such as cluster analysis, identified the effect of that level of implementation on the employee's understanding of organizational strategy and competitiveness as well as morale and job satisfaction.

Engaging in this type of analysis allows for mid-course evaluations of initiatives. Using evaluation findings, management has a sound basis for determining whether mid-course corrections are needed. In addition, effective use of the information obtained from these initiative evaluations can be highly motivating to employees and managers, providing both direction for improvement and impetus for "staying the course."

While management initiatives can be effectively evaluated after they've been implemented, it is even better to plan the evaluation as part of the implementation, along with alternative courses of action based on the results of the evaluation. Finally, while it is true that management initiatives can often be implemented using a generic process, a better approach is to use an implementation process and evaluation method tailored to your particular organization.
